COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS

Reaching a broad audience of soon-to-be makers and designers sometimes means the education itself must be mobile. While our home base is the STEAM Studio of UNC Asheville, we are also take our curriculum on the road with the help of grants, donors, and organizational partnerships.

SkillSet is proud to partner with a number of organizations both near and far with the common goal of reaching students who may not otherwise have access to STEAM education. Our community partnerships take many forms, including collaborative grant-writing efforts, after school, summer and one-day programming designed and delivered by SkillSet staff in and around WNC, in-school time instruction at your location, school tours to UNCA STEAM studio, and more!

COLLABORATIVE SUCCESSES!

Through financial support provided by the American Association of University Women, SkillSet was able to purchase a new fleet of tools and take programming on the road! We piloted mobile programming with Hanger Hall School, the Alex Foundation (Arkansas), and GirlUp GVL (South Carolina) and instructed middle school students in tool use, building, and teamwork.

Our continued partnership with Hanger Hall School (2021 - present) allows us to teach 8th grade students power tool use, project management, and teamwork as each graduating class builds and leaves a legacy project for future generations to enjoy.

Through the generous support of Dogwood Health Trust, our mobile programming expanded in 2024. We currently provide after school, summer camp, and one-day experiences with a number of WNC organizations including Partnership for Appalachian Girls’ Education, Children’s First of Buncombe County, United Way, Asheville City Schools Foundation, and more!

Yes, we are always seeking new and innovative collaborations that help reach students who may not otherwise have access to quality STEAM education. Scroll down to learn more!

HELP US EXPAND

Through the generous support of the Dogwood Health Trust, we are currently seeking hosts for one-day workshops and events that engage youth and adults in making during out of school time.

Past workshops have included Hurricane Helene rebuilding efforts, public tabling events at science expos and block parties, tool trainings for youth and their families, as well as custom one-day STEAM workshops.

Have an idea for a class, workshop, or project in your classroom, organization, or community? We would love to share our skills, knowledge, and tools with you! Custom on-site programming is available in the Asheville area and beyond!

A big thank you to our recent partners!
